Chrome Extension for Google Workspace
FAQs
Set up & Configuration
Q: Which browsers does the extension support?
CyberNut Chrome extension supports Google Chrome only.
Q: How do I install or deploy the CyberNut Chrome Extension across my district?
See our instructions here.
Q: I'm a Microsoft 365 customer. Do I have this extension?
No. The Chrome extension is for Google Workspace customers only. Microsoft 365 customers use the CyberNUT Outlook add-in instead, which has not changed.
Q: What's the difference between the Chrome extension and the Gmail plugin?
The Gmail plugin is the side panel that appears inside Gmail itself. It shows up as part of the Gmail interface and is always available when you're using Gmail in a browser or the Gmail mobile app. The Chrome extension is a separate browser-level add-on that puts the squirrel icon directly on top of the email you're reading. It's a faster one-click report path for users who want it. The plugin and extension report into the same place, so reports flow through your district's threat review process the same way regardless of which one a user clicks.
Q: Will this change affect my district's reported threat history or analytics?
No. All historical reports, analytics, and threat data are unchanged. The update only affects where the report button appears in Gmail.
Usage
Q: Where exactly does the squirrel icon appear?
It appears in the bottom-left corner after clicking on an email to view in Gmail.
Q: I have the extension installed but I don't see the squirrel. What's wrong?
Three things to check:
-
You need to be inside an opened email, not the inbox list.
-
You need to be signed into Chrome with your district email.
-
You need to be on a recent version of Chrome.
Q: How do users report a suspicious email with the new icon?
Open the email. Click the squirrel icon in the bottom-left corner. The email is reported and routed through your district's standard threat review flow.
Q: How do users report a suspicious email with the new icon?
Open the email. Click the squirrel icon in the bottom-left corner. The email is reported and routed through your district's standard threat review flow.
Q: Why was this change made to move the location of the squirrel?
The previous placement made the report icon less visible during email review. The new placement keeps the icon present the entire time a user is reading an email, which means faster reports, more reminders to stay vigilant, and a more visible CyberNUT presence in your district's day-to-day workflow.
