Deploying the CyberNut Chrome Extension for Gmail

The CyberNut extension is an additional feature that adds Chip, the blue squirrel button, to more visible locations to help users report suspicious emails. The updated extension adds the Chip icon in three additional locations.

The first is located as a quick action in your list of emails.

 

The second is located at the top ribbon of an email.



The third icon is a floating icon to place wherever you like. It can be moved around to any position needed and will remain there each time an email is opened to make it convenient to report any suspicious emails. 

Keep in mind this extension only works in Chrome when the user is logged in with their school Chrome profile.

Directions for Installing the Extension

1. Go to the Google Admin Console at http://admin.google.com.
2. Click Devices on the left side bar.
   
   
3. Click Chrome.
4. Click Apps & extensions.
   
   
   
5. Click the Users & Browsers tab at the top.
   
   
   
   
6. Select the Users for which you want to deploy the extension. (ex. Staff)
   
   
7. At the bottom right, click the yellow plus icon.
8. Click the icon at that appears like a waffle labeled Add Chrome app or extension by ID.
   
9. Paste the following where it is labeled Extension ID hoaajnafdcffakciamdkdhlhmnkneecb
   
   
   
10. Select From the Chrome Web Store and click Save.
    
    
11. Click Force Install on the drop down.
    
    Note: Once the extension is installed for all users, you could return in a day or so and set this as Allow install if you would like to give the individual the right to remove the extension.

Once the extension is installed, you can modify how the floating squirrel it's being used in the CyberNut Admin Portal.

1. Login at http://admin.cybernut.com
2. Go to Settings in the bottom left corner.
3. Click the Add-on tab and toggle on Chrome Extension has been deployed. Select the other options you want and click Save.
